Players vs. Umps: Players are Throwing Things Again!

Players and umpires seem to be more heated than normal this year. Today, the league handed Asdrubal Cabrera a four game suspension for hitting Bill Miller with his batting gloves and elbow pad.

Yesterday’s events reminded me of one of my all-time favorite moments that included one of my all-time favorite players, Andre “The Hawk” Dawson. Joe West, who is still terrorizing the league today, plays the part of catalyst in this whole thing. Here is the full video with the call by Harry Carey, who sounds like he’s 24 Budweisers deep.

And here is the news clip on WGN with Dan Roan, looking like he just left a luau. Rob Dibble throwing at a baserunner almost gets lost in all of this. What a night!

My first crystal clear memory of a baseball game is from when I was about 11 years old, visiting some family friends. The White Sox were playing, and Lance Johnson hit a laser to the wall for a triple that ended with a soaring headfirst slide.
